Born in Canada in 1906, Idris Welsh (who became known as Aloha Wanderwell) was an explorer, author, filmmaker and general wonder woman.

Her traveling began in 1914, at the start of the First World War, when her step-father was transferred to the British Army, stationed in England. Her family followed him to Europe, where they traveled around England, Belgium, and France before her step-father was tragically killed in combat in 1917.
